What’s Happening with Rev. Yolanda?

It has been a while since I have written a post about the Living Gender Bender Gospel Celebration that IS Roger Anthony Yolanda Mapes, more commonly known as Rev. Yolanda.

First, this past Wednesday, February 11, 2015, Rev. Yolanda was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.  And, is the first drag queen to receive such an honor.

Was I able to attend?  No.  I was experiencing the mental muddiness that one can expect during a Mercury Retrograde (or, in this case, a Post Mercury Retrograde Storm).

Second, Rev. Yolanda is COMING BACK back to The Duplex!  And I cannot wait!!

A little about THE Rev. Yolanda: Aside from being a MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs) Award Winner, an inductee of the GLBT Hall of Fame, the Blues Hall of Fame, the Bear Music Hall of Fame (I never even knew there was such a thing!), and a Grammy Award Nominee, Rev. Yolanda is also an InterFaith Minister, a sweetheart of a person, and most certainly a sweet guy/gal.

If you are not sure if you would enjoy Rev. Yolanda’s performances, ask yourself two questions:

1. Do I like Gay people?

2. Do I love good music?

If you answered “Yes” to either question, then you shall LOVE Rev. Yolanda!

Before I conclude my short little ditty of a blog post about one of my favorite people on the Planet, let me acknowledge my newest blog follower: Stuart M. Perkins.

I AM especially honored that he is following “This Gay Man’s Life…” because he is also following my very first WordPress Blog, “This Is Who I AM.”

I think I shall need to come up with a truly lovely gift for those people who follow both of my WordPress Blogs, because the number of blog followers who do so is increasing.

To all of you who follow or read “This Gay Man’s Life…” may you receive great insight and great PRIDE from doing so.

To those of you who follow or read “This Is Who I AM,” may you receive Divine Love, Divine Light, Divine Prosperity, and Divine Peace from doing so.

To those of you who follow or read both “This Gay Man’s Life…” AND “This Is Who I AM,” may the Universe Bless you with Blessing upon Blessing, Gift upon Gift, Miracle upon Miracle.

Thank you very much.

The World Continues to Change, Part IV: Thank You, Towleroad!

A few years ago, I volunteered, then worked for a non-profit organization in my area.

When I first volunteered, the executive director was a fellow Gay Man.  Two executive directors later, I was hired by the organization, and the executive director who was instrumental in my being hired, was also a fellow Gay Man.

That second executive director, also introduced me to my very first Gay-themed blog, “Towleroad: A Site with Homosexual Tendencies.”

I have visited this blog, from time to time, over the years.

And recently, I was pleasantly surprised (actually, downright delighted!) to find the following post:

Several years ago, I recall having a conversation with a fellow professional Lightworker, who was also a professional actor, at that time.  He told me that there was no way that he would come out of the closet, because it would damage his budding acting career.

Interestingly enough, that same year, the current and great Sir Ian McKellen came out of the closet..

Based on what I have seen on television these past two years, and based on what I have received, Intuitively, from the Universe, it looks like this world is moving in the direction of greater acceptance.

Before I close, I wish to acknowledge my newest blog follower, “Opinionated Man.”  What a GREAT screen name, and blog name!

May you receive great insight, and great PRIDE from following “This Gay Man’s Life…”  And thank you for being one more of an ever-increasing number of straight allies.

And to those of you already following or reading “This Gay Man’s Life…”  Thank you for honoring who you are and what you do, and thank you for honoring who I AM and what I do, too.

Happy New Year!LIVEbanner

BEING THE LOVE, Continued…

This past Wednesday, October 15, 2014, I had the honor and pleasure of returning to The Duplex in Greenwich Village, Manhattan to see Rev. Yolanda’s “Old Time Gospel Hour, Chapter II: BE THE LOVE.”  And it was even better than ever!

I have had the pleasure of seeing Rev. Yolanda perform for more than two years now.

I first saw Rev. Yolanda perform for the first time on Friday, April 19, 2013, 8PM, at the William V. Musto Cultural Center in Union City, New Jersey.  It was a free show, and it was a wonderful surprise!

When I saw “A gender bending gospel celebration” in the advertising, I was so there!

Her performance last year, was wonderful, and her performance this past Wednesday, October 15, 2014, at The Duplex was one of her best, yet!

And I was not the only person in attendance this past Wednesday who shared this sentiment.  Even a fellow Robert had the same idea.

The Sacred Occasion that was being celebrated in her performance was the tenth anniversary of her Sacred Union with her husband, Rev. Glen Morton Ganaway (  Although in her Email (a portion of which I transcribed in one of my previous posts, “Being the Love…”

Since then, I have seen her perform at all but two or three performances at The Duplex.  In fact, there was a series of performances in 2013 that I missed;  well, I missed the Mother’s Day performance that year, as well as the one in June or July, of that same year.

But on Sunday, August 4, 2014, 6:30PM, I was at The Duplex ready to let the “LOVE” wash over me.

Now, for those of you that are new to “This Gay Man’s Life…” as well as new to me, personally, I AM NOT a religious person.  Spiritual, yes; religious, no.

However, I have always enjoyed listening to Gospel music, although it takes a truly talented artist for me to enjoy Country Gospel, and Rev. Yolanda is that truly talented artist.

I invite all of to visit Rev. Yolanda’s Website for more info about her, all she does, and upcoming performances.

If you have Spotify, you can also check out two of her albums and one of her dance mixes, too.

Also, I just found out that she has been written about on the Huffington Post.  You can visit read that post by visiting

So, if you are Spiritual or not, religious or not, lover of country or not, lover of Gospel or not, feel free to visit Rev. Yolanda’s Website, check out the music, the photos, and more.

Thank you for honoring yourselves and all you do with great Love, great Joy and great PRIDE.

A great photograph of Rev. Yolanda, by Kevin Truong, that I was fortunate to find on “The Gay Men Project” blog.
